ᐅ How to Clean a Geberit Wall Drain in the Shower When It’s Clogged?

Hello everyone,

After more than 3 years in our house, I unfortunately noticed that the shower drain in the main bathroom, a Geberit wall drain, is showing signs of slight blockage. The water is draining very slowly. I have been regularly cleaning the hair strainer.

Does anyone have an idea how to clean it? I have already got a drain snake, but I can hardly reach past the first two bends. It would also be helpful to have a cross-sectional diagram of the drain, as Geberit’s support wasn’t really helpful.

Thank you very much.

Keep in mind that these were also the answers of a layperson—someone with experience, but still, your professional might tell you something different.
If that happens, you can always come back again.

That’s okay 😉 What was important for me was to understand where the main issue lies. The product itself doesn’t seem to be worse than other drains. They all have the same problems with narrow pipe sections, etc. Accessibility is the main problem with the wall drain, that’s how I understood it.

I’ll try to find a store where one is installed, then I’ll get down on my knees to play around inside it and decide on the spot whether it’s acceptable for me or if I might regret it during future use 🙂.

Step 2 will be to discuss a sensible and effective pipe routing with the plumber.

So, thanks for this insight!

Yes, that is a good summary, at least from my perspective.
One could add that, at least in my setup, the entire cavity inside the wall also acts as a dirt trap. The issue of waterproofing is also a topic on its own. In my case, a waterproof slurry was used.
I know that nowadays, for floor drains, there is a kind of waterproof membrane that can be unfolded and works similarly to sealing tape. It can be easily stuck onto the floor around the drain. In the drain cavity of the wall drain, though, it becomes fiddly again.

Back to the original question: Do you have a pressure washer? There is an accessory available—a long, thin hose with a nozzle that produces a strong water jet first forward and then repeatedly backward, causing the hose to pull itself into the pipe while blasting away the dirt.
