Hello and good day,

We have a relatively new gas heating system in the house, and I wanted to ask how often it should be serviced. Do we need to have a professional come for this, or can it be done by ourselves?

The chimney sweep comes every year to take their measurements. They basically check the essential aspects. In my opinion, a maintenance contract is not necessary. Modern systems continuously monitor themselves. If something serious occurs, the system will alert you.

That’s how I see it. Well, certain parts need to be replaced or serviced from time to time. But I consider regular maintenance unnecessary, especially since these systems in modern houses have relatively few operating hours.

A gas heating system is a complex setup subjected to high temperatures, pressure, and mechanical wear. To ensure that the efficiency of your condensing boiler remains as high as you expect throughout its entire service life, it is important to strictly follow the maintenance intervals for a gas heating system.

After 8 years!!! they might have finally had it serviced once...

Often it’s not just about the original poster but also others who have the same question themselves.....

Condensing boilers are generally inspected by the chimney sweep every 2 years, unless they have a self-calibrating combustion control system, in which case the inspection interval extends to every 3 years. Additionally, there is a fireplace inspection every 3.5 years.

I strongly recommend a maintenance contract, which is essential with most well-known heating manufacturers if you want to keep your heating system warranty valid.

After the warranty period expires (5-10 years depending on the manufacturer and type of heating system, details about the warranty duration can be found in the heating system’s manual or on the manufacturer’s website), I recommend a maintenance interval of 2 years.

Better safe than sorry, because…
There is nothing more frustrating than carbon monoxide poisoning or a breakdown during the winter months.

Three years ago, we replaced our gas heating system and have now had it serviced for the first time. The technician said that servicing every 2–3 years would be sufficient going forward.
The maintenance cost 280 euros. Financially, this puts the savings from installing a new system into perspective.

And in the other thread, you have an air-to-water heat pump... so what is it? Just trolling?
