ᐅ How much weight can the Ikea Brimnes frame support?

Hello everyone,

I have a specific question regarding the IKEA Brimnes furniture system, particularly about its maximum load capacity. I am planning to purchase a dresser from the Brimnes series and would like to know how much weight the piece can safely support – not only the static load capacity per compartment but also the total weight that can be placed on the surface without concern.

I am also interested in whether the load limits differ between individual shelves or drawers and what factors (material, wall mounting, etc.) might influence this. Safety is especially important to me, as I intend to store heavy items.

Does anyone have detailed information or personal experience with the load capacity of Brimnes? Are there official specifications from IKEA or practical insights from users?

Thank you in advance!

In practice, I don’t see any sagging of the shelves, even after extended use.

I find it interesting how often IKEA furniture is praised for its load capacity limits, even though the material is still particleboard, which shows fatigue quickly under heavy loads.

Especially when relying on official specifications, people tend to assume the furniture will remain stable over time too easily. But honestly, a TV on such a sideboard is already pushing it for me, especially when heavy books are added on top.

Also, while “mounting on the wall” is sensible, it does not replace a solid construction made from solid materials. I would rather suggest critically questioning the manufacturers’ claims—not everything IKEA states is as sturdy as it seems.

Perhaps the 15-20 kg (33-44 lbs) per shelf is not only a safety limit but also a durability limit. And if loads frequently reach the upper limit, the furniture may weaken sooner than expected.
