ᐅ How much weight can an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe hold?

Hello everyone,

I am planning to get an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe but I’m unsure about how much weight the individual shelves can actually hold. I’m especially interested in the maximum load capacity of the shelves and whether this varies depending on the type of doors (for example, with or without glass doors). I would also like to know if there are any differences in load capacity when the wardrobe is fixed to the wall versus when it is not. I’m mainly looking for practical experiences and, if possible, any manufacturer information so I can safely store my books and some decorative items without risking damage or deformation. Thanks in advance for your insights and experiences!

15 kilograms (33 pounds) per shelf are realistic with proper installation. If you place heavy items, it’s better to screw them directly to the wall. Glass doors have no impact.

I have decorative items and some heavy books on it, and so far, no warping or issues.

It’s interesting that you haven’t experienced any warping. The key factor here is the long-term load: particleboard can start to sag over time under excessive weight, even if this isn’t immediately visible.

It would be helpful if Ongrgur could provide more details on:

- the weight of the individual items
- whether the loads are point loads or evenly distributed
- if the cabinet will be anchored to the wall

This would greatly improve the assessment of stability. Generally speaking, the Brimnes is not the most robust model for bookshelves, but when adhering to about 15 kg (33 lbs) per shelf combined with wall anchoring, it usually works reliably.
