Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to install an Ikea Metod kitchen unit in my small kitchen, which is only about 2.5 meters (8 feet) wide and 1.8 meters (6 feet) deep. My goal is to make the best possible use of the available space while keeping it functional – meaning enough storage, a practical work surface, and well-thought-out appliance integration.

I am very interested in how you have set up your Metod kitchen units in small spaces, which combinations have proven effective, for example regarding cabinet sizes, countertops, or storage options. Also, any special tips for cleverly maximizing limited space would be helpful, such as corner solutions, pull-out drawers, or integrated organization sets.

I look forward to your advice and experiences, ideally with practical guidance on planning and implementation. Thank you in advance!

On Combining Base Cabinets and Heating:

I would recommend choosing a height of 80 cm (31.5 inches) with a corresponding base design. Although 70 cm (27.5 inches) is slimmer, it often provides less storage space.

Ventilation under the cabinets must be ensured, either through ventilation grilles or open toe kicks.

About Laminate:

I have laminate flooring in my small Metod kitchen and can confirm that edge sealing is crucial for durability.

Pro tip: Use silicone joints along the edges where the cabinets meet the wall to prevent moisture damage.

Since I am planning the Metod kitchen unit on a wall with a radiator, the height of the base cabinets is currently set at 80 cm (31.5 inches) to avoid affecting heat output.

I would like to add that it is important to monitor the temperature inside the base cabinet. When electrical appliances are installed, the proximity to the radiator can cause overheating.

Additionally, I recommend installing a thermal insulation panel behind the radiator if the gap is very small. Measuring precisely is crucial, not just relying on visual estimation.

Ikea Metod offers adjustable feet that allow the height to be adjusted as needed.

That is a good point; precise work during installation is advisable to avoid problems later on.

Final thoughts on the topic:

- In small kitchens, multifunctionality is key. For example, a countertop with an integrated cutting board or draining area can save a lot of space.
- Consider using narrow, tall pantry cabinets with pull-out shelves – they maximize vertical storage and are especially valuable when floor space is limited.
- A well-designed handle solution greatly improves both the look and function of the kitchen line.
