Hello everyone,

I noticed that some doors on my Ikea Hemnes wardrobe have warped over time – they no longer close properly and appear slightly twisted. Since Hemnes furniture is usually made of solid pine wood, I suspect moisture or temperature fluctuations might be the cause. Now I’m looking for practical repair tips specifically for Hemnes doors, as they tend to be quite thick and sturdy, and typical furniture door repair guides don’t always apply.

I’m interested in:
- What is the best way to bring a warped Hemnes wooden door back into shape or correct it?
- Is it enough to remove the door and realign it, or does the wood need treatment?
- Are there any special tools or materials that have proven effective?

I would appreciate hearing from your experience with as much detail as possible about how you handle such cases. Thank you in advance!

I’m still wondering: How old is the cabinet approximately and how severe is the deformation?

Thank you for your answers! The cabinet is about 8 years old, was kept in the bedroom, and has been regularly cleaned with damp cloths. The doors are slightly bowed outward, so they don’t close properly at the sides. I could hardly notice any twisting.

It would also be interesting to know whether your doors are bowed (curved outward) or warped.

That’s exactly it, it’s the bowing. The idea to dampen the back and place weights on it seems sensible to me. I will try this first on the door with the most pronounced deformation and, if successful, proceed with the other doors.

Is there any advice on how much weight is appropriate? And should I keep the doors weighted only briefly or for several days? I have also been considering whether I should carefully sand the edges if they rub.
