Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an IKEA Pax wardrobe with wood and laminate surfaces and would like to know the best way to clean them gently and effectively.

My main question is which cleaning agents are suitable for the wood and laminate surfaces, as I want to avoid any risk of damage, discoloration, or loss of the protective coating.

Are there any specific tips for application, such as dilution, cleaning frequency, or things that should definitely be avoided?

I would appreciate a detailed and practical answer!

For wooden surfaces on the Pax, usually a damp, not wet, cloth is sufficient. Use mild dish soap in water if there is something more stubborn. You can also clean laminate with lukewarm water and a neutral cleaning agent. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

I would like to break down the topic in more detail, as the difference between wood and laminate has some important implications.

- For wood surfaces: It is best to use a slightly damp cloth, not dripping wet. Use mild, pH-neutral cleaning agents to avoid damaging the protective finish. A microfiber cloth is ideal because it gently cleans and attracts dust.

- Avoid harsh chemicals such as ammonia or solvents, as these can damage the wood.

- Laminate surfaces are more resistant to water but still do not require aggressive cleaners. A neutral all-purpose cleaner combined with a soft cloth is sufficient.

- For both materials, avoid using water too frequently to prevent swelling or damaging the surface.

I also recommend not attempting cleaning with unknown products immediately after purchase but rather testing first in an inconspicuous area.

For clarification: For IKEA Pax surfaces made of solid wood or wood veneer, cleaning should only be done with slightly damp cloths. Using pH-neutral soapy water is recommended. Avoid harsh cleaning agents or abrasive cleaners, as these can cause permanent damage to the surface.

Laminate is a plastic-coated surface that is more resistant to moisture but also does not tolerate abrasive cleaning products.

I also advise against using excessive water or wiping the cabinet directly while wet to prevent swelling damage and peeling of the laminate. It is always helpful to follow up with a dry cloth.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation. I have one more question regarding gentle care: Should the wooden parts be treated occasionally with special wood care products, such as oil or wax? Or is cleaning with mild soapy water sufficient as long as there are no heavy stains?

Basically, I recommend paying attention to the original finish on IKEA Pax surfaces. Most laminate and painted wood surfaces are factory-treated, so additional care with oil or wax is usually unnecessary and can even damage the protective layer.

- Cleaning with a pH-neutral cleaner and a damp cloth is sufficient.
- For solid wood, an occasional wipe with a special wood care product can be useful, but only if the surface is untreated or oiled (which is rare for IKEA Pax).

If you choose to apply any care products, always test them first on an inconspicuous spot. Excessive use can cause unsightly streaks or discoloration.
