Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of securely and neatly mounting Ikea Metod wall cabinets on a tiled kitchen wall. The tiles are fairly typical medium thickness, and of course, I want to avoid damaging the tiles while drilling or causing cracks later on. In particular, I am looking for a way to install the wall cabinets as straight and stable as possible without visible damage – so no large holes or unsightly anchors showing on the surface.
Does anyone have experience fixing Metod wall cabinets specifically to tiles? Which types of plugs and screws do you recommend? And how can material stresses be avoided? I have considered chemical anchors or special tile screws, but I am unsure if that is the best solution.
I would appreciate practical tips and advice, maybe also recommendations on which tools or preparations before drilling are useful. Thanks in advance!

I would recommend using a suitable tile or glass drill bit designed specifically for smooth and hard surfaces to prevent slipping. Also, tape the drilling spot with some painter’s tape or masking tape before starting to drill – this provides better grip.

Which type of anchors and screws are recommended? And how can you avoid stress in the material? For tiles, special anchors that grip firmly in the masonry behind are suitable, such as nylon anchors. Chemical anchors are an option if the wall is load-bearing enough – but these need to be installed properly, which requires more effort. It is important to attach the cabinet preferably to the Ikea mounting rails and to professionally fix these rails to the wall.
Regarding stress: The cabinets should be leveled horizontally before fully tightening the screws. Use a spirit level during installation and only fully tighten the screws once everything is properly aligned. This helps prevent twisting of the cabinets and pressure on the tiles.
Tools: A hammer drill is not necessary; a rotary drill with hammer off function suffices and is gentler.
I hope this helps you.

Additionally, from a technical standpoint, it is advisable to use the drill without the hammer function when drilling into tiles to avoid sudden stress changes that can cause cracks.

If you have solid concrete or solid masonry behind the tiles, high-quality nylon anchors installed correctly are sufficient. Make sure to clean the holes thoroughly to ensure optimal anchor hold.
Additionally, I recommend matching the load from the wall cabinets to the maximum load capacity of the anchors and, if necessary, using multiple fixing points to distribute the weight better. Accordingly, you should plan the drilling pattern carefully.
Tools:
- Tile drill bit with carbide tip
- Cordless drill without hammer mode
- Spirit level for alignment
If you want a particularly neat appearance, you can use appropriate screw head cover caps.
