ᐅ How do I fix a door that is misaligned on Billy-style shelving units?

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with one of the doors on my Billy bookshelf—it’s slightly misaligned. The bookshelf itself is stable, but the door doesn’t adjust properly and therefore doesn’t close flush. I suspect either the hinges are not correctly adjusted, or the bookshelf itself is slightly warped. The hinges are the standard fittings from Ikea, and the door is attached with two hinges at the top and bottom of the shelf.
Can someone provide me with detailed instructions on how to properly adjust a misaligned door on a Billy bookshelf? Are there any tips I should be aware of before simply turning the screws? I want to avoid damaging anything or ending up with a door that no longer closes.
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice!

I’m glad you brought up this topic! You can really adjust Billy doors well once you know how. Think of the hinges like little apprentices of magic that you finely tune for every obstacle in the way. 🙂
Great tip! I also like to keep a little reminder for myself so I know what’s already been tried. And don’t be afraid of the screws! Don’t turn them too much, but loosen them slightly, reposition the door, and everything will look much better.
And if the door ever sticks, a little lubricant on the hinges often helps—that makes all the difference. Life’s too short for crooked doors! 😉
