Hello everyone, I am currently planning my new kitchen and living room project with the Ikea Metod cabinets and considering how to best equip them with sliding doors to make the most efficient use of the available space.
My issue is that I am working in a rather narrow room, where standard hinged doors are not ideal because they require space to open. Sliding doors would theoretically save a significant amount of space here.
I am very interested to hear about your experiences with assembling the Metod cabinets with sliding doors. Are there any specific installation steps or tips on how to best use the hinges and sliding tracks to ensure smooth operation, especially for cabinets placed close to walls or adjacent furniture?
Also, what are good tricks for achieving a precise fit during assembly so that the sliding doors neither jam nor have too much play? Are there particular considerations regarding space optimization I should keep in mind when integrating the cabinets into a corner or niche?
I look forward to your detailed tips and instructions, as it is important to me that the result fits perfectly and that the sliding doors are comfortable to use.

Take your time to carefully and repeatedly align the doors before final installation. This is truly the key to long-lasting functionality. I would add the following:
- Especially for longer cabinets, it’s worth aligning the rails with a laser, as Filippo suggested, to avoid any slope.
- It’s also helpful to have all mounting brackets and screws prepared and numbered before assembly to prevent mistakes.

A common mistake is that the doors don’t run perfectly parallel.Absolutely, and to prevent this, you can also apply test strips of insulation tape at critical contact points beforehand. These reduce unwanted vibrations and noise during operation.
I would also recommend possibly fitting the doors with grip handles that can double as guides – this reduces lateral play.
One more question for the thread starter: What width and height are you planning for the cabinets and doors? This is important when choosing the sliding rails.
