Hello everyone, I recently purchased some Ikea Metod cabinets for my kitchen and am now in the process of assembling and configuring them. I am looking for effective ways to maximize storage space without compromising stability and functionality. My question is: How can I assemble Ikea Metod cabinets to create greater and, in particular, more usable storage space? I am considering various aspects such as interior fittings, adjustable shelves, making full use of cabinet height, modifications to doors or frames, as well as any practical adjustments that optimize the available space. Who has experience or tips on how to best plan and build these cabinets to increase storage, especially in small kitchens or tight spaces? I look forward to your suggestions and any examples you can share.

I can easily understand wanting to get the most out of your storage space. Sometimes the many options with Metod can feel almost overwhelming. What has worked well for me is building the cabinets as close to the ceiling as possible, even though this makes the top area a bit harder to reach. It simply creates a lot of extra storage space for items you don’t need daily.

I also usually use a combination of drawers and revolving shelves, since this allows better use of the cabinet depth while keeping everything accessible. It was important for me not to take on too much at once, but to plan and adjust step by step. This made the assembly less stressful and improved the storage space overall.

If you want more storage space, I especially recommend focusing on internal pull-out drawers. They provide great visibility and make efficient use of interior space. Additionally, tall cabinets and adjustable shelves that can be positioned flexibly are helpful. Also, use corner solutions with a carousel, if possible.

A key tip is to make the most efficient use of the cabinet interior dimensions. Although Metod offers many standard heights, the space above the shelves is often wasted. Adding extra, narrow shelves for smaller kitchen items is worthwhile here.

I also recommend combining interior fittings from Ikea’s range strategically, such as drawers with storage baskets and pull-outs that can be adjusted in depth. Corner cabinets are often challenging, but using swing doors together with shelves or carousel fittings can significantly increase storage capacity.

Another important aspect is ensuring stability, especially for tall cabinets, by securing them to the wall. This is the only safe way to use larger volumes without risk.

I find this recommendation too general, as internal drawers are not always the best solution. They do not necessarily increase storage volume but rather improve organization and visibility.

In terms of pure storage capacity, it is more effective to maximize cabinet systems by using taller units or drawers with deeper dimensions than the standard depths offered by Metod, even if that means making custom adjustments.

Additionally, it is important to critically consider whether modular corner carousels actually provide more storage space, or if simple, continuous storage with adjustable shelves might be more advantageous.

I would recommend questioning the existing modular options of Metod and considering possible external solutions to maximize storage capacity.
