Hello everyone,

I am currently exploring how to combine Ikea Hemnes furniture with felt and cork panels in a targeted way to preserve the typical Scandinavian style while adding practical and aesthetic touches. I am particularly interested in possible applications for the panels—such as back protection, floor protection, or decorative elements—and how to best handle processing or fastening techniques without damaging the furniture structure.

I would appreciate tips on material thicknesses, adhesive or mounting methods, as well as creative design ideas that also consider functional aspects. Perhaps someone has experience with specific combinations, for example, using felt as floor protection for Hemnes dressers and cork panels as an alternative pinboard on the furniture.

Looking forward to an engaging exchange!

Hello,

I would stick felt pads under the furniture to protect the floor. You can attach cork to the inside of cabinet doors to use as a pinboard. Simply fix it with spray adhesive or double-sided tape.

For combining Hemnes furniture with felt and cork panels, I recommend the following approach:

- Self-adhesive felt is ideal for floor protection under dressers or cabinets due to its cushioning effect and scratch prevention.
- Cork panels work well as flexible pinboards on the inside of cabinets, as cork is soft and can hold nails or push pins.
- When attaching, make sure to use residue-free adhesives to avoid damaging the furniture.
- Cork can also be used as a decorative covering on shelves to conceal scratched surfaces.

Material thicknesses of around 3-5 mm (0.1-0.2 inches) have proven effective; the felt pads should be high quality and strongly adhesive.

For a simple and clean finish: just cut the felt to size and attach it with hot glue. For cork panels, I recommend screws with caps, as this holds much better than glue alone.

This is an important tip for me. Does anyone have experience with specific brands or types of products that can be removed easily without leaving marks? Especially with the natural wood surfaces of the Hemnes system, I consider protection against adhesive residue crucial.

Also: How well does cork work when cut with a saw? I would like to install custom-cut pieces since the furniture comes in various sizes.

Hey, I’m a big fan of combining felt and cork with Hemnes! 🙂

- Felt pads for furniture work great, especially if you use felt sheets that are 4 mm (0.16 inches) thick. They can be easily cut with a utility knife and stick well with double-sided tape.
- Cork is excellent for wall panels, but also for surface design on furniture. It’s best to cut it with a sharp hand saw or cutter, depending on the thickness.

Definitely give it a try! It not only provides protection but also adds great texture and appearance to the room.
