Hello everyone, I’m planning to install BILLY shelves from IKEA in my living room, but I’m having issues because the walls are made of drywall.
My question is: How can I securely and permanently mount BILLY shelves on drywall so that they remain stable under load and do not cause damage to the wall?
I know that standard wall anchors are often not sufficient, so I’m looking for specific solutions or recommended mounting methods.
Thanks in advance for your tips and advice!

Yes, this is a practical solution.
Attaching a large wooden board directly to the drywall distributes the load across multiple anchor points and reduces the load per anchor.
It is important that the mounting board itself is made of sturdy material (e.g., at least 18mm (3/4 inch) thick plywood or MDF) and is fixed with a sufficient number of appropriate cavity anchors.
Keep in mind that the total load should correspond to the sum of the maximum loads of the anchors.
This method avoids major work on the wall and significantly increases stability.

So, today I installed the shelves using Fischer UX metal anchors as dowels, attaching the wooden board with four anchors.
Everything is firmly in place, no wobbling, and it supports the books well! Thanks to everyone for the advice.
If I want to make any changes in the future, I would use more anchors per board to better distribute the load.
