Hello everyone, I am about to move and need to disassemble several IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets for safe transport. My specific question is: How can I take apart the Metod cabinets so that all parts remain undamaged and there is no harm to the carcasses or fittings during reassembly? Are there any special tips or tools I should use when dismantling and transporting them to prevent damage to the doors, rails, shelves, etc.? I would really appreciate if someone could provide systematic advice, preferably with practical tips, on how to handle this effectively and safely.

Hey, I want to share a helpful tip: When packing, I put all the disassembled parts into numbered boxes and use colored tape. This makes the reassembly more enjoyable and everything feels less stressful! 😄

Also, when taking things apart, the IKEA instructions from the website can sometimes be useful, even if they’re not specifically for disassembly – you can clearly see where each dowel goes.

And yes, packing a bit like a puzzle is definitely the best approach.

Why should the doors be removed first? Isn’t there a risk that the cabinets could become unstable during transport as a result?

The stability of the cabinets is hardly affected by the doors, as the basic frame of Metod is designed to be very sturdy. However, the doors are prone to damage during transport, so in my opinion, it makes sense to remove them first and store them safely.

I also recommend protecting all wooden parts with moving blankets after documenting and dismantling them, and keeping the screws separately with precise labeling of their positions. This helps avoid unnecessary problems during assembly at the new location.
