ᐅ How can I make MALM dressers more stable?

Hello everyone, I have several Malm dressers from IKEA that I would like to make more stable. Although they are assembled, I have the problem that they sometimes tilt slightly or do not stand completely level, especially on uneven floors. What options are there to securely and permanently level and stabilize these dressers? I am thinking of solutions like additional shims, anchors, or special feet. It is also important to me that the solutions remain practical and do not affect the appearance too much. Does anyone have experience or recommendations beyond simply adjusting the built-in adjustable feet?

I had the exact same problem with my Malm dressers and know how frustrating it can be to constantly worry about tipping accidents. After trying out a few options at home, I found flexible rubber wedges to be the best solution – they are not only slip-resistant but also absorb slight movements. Since then, the dressers have been much more stable.

Some people swear by small cut-out rubber pads that you simply stick to the feet – super practical and you can’t see them at all.

I can confirm that. In addition, you should also consider securing the dressers to the wall if needed. Especially with children in the house, this provides a great sense of safety. If you’re unsure about how to do this, feel free to ask – I’m happy to help!

For a structured solution:

1. Check the level of the dresser precisely using a spirit level.
2. Assess the extent of the floor unevenness – if it exceeds 5 mm (0.2 inches), it is advisable to reduce the base area by placing a thin wooden board with a leveled surface underneath.
3. Use adjustable furniture glides with a greater adjustment range than the original feet; these are available through IKEA service.
4. Secure the dresser to the wall using an anti-tip device that prevents tipping even under load.

Combining these steps ensures that the MALM dresser stands stable and secure. The key is the combination of adjusting for floor unevenness and fastening to the wall.

Has anyone checked if the anchoring system is being used effectively on the wall?

Thank you for the reminder. The anchoring system was not yet installed on my dressers. I will definitely take care of that, as it significantly improves safety by preventing tipping.

Could you please provide some examples or sources for these? I want to be sure before buying anything unsuitable.

So far, I only had small plastic feet from IKEA, which allow very little adjustment.

Thanks to everyone for the many great tips! They really help me a lot.
