Hello everyone, I probably posted this topic in the wrong forum, so here is the question again:

We moved into our new house in the first week of October last year and immediately completed the exterior paving ourselves. During the paving around the property, we paved right up to the house facade. After a few months, it feels somewhat sterile and monotonous to us. For example, I miss a gravel bed around the house to break up the visual appearance. So we are considering adding this afterwards.

This idea is purely for aesthetic purposes. We have a roof overhang of 1.00m (3.3 feet), so even during heavy rain, the area directly next to the facade remains mostly dry. Therefore, I don’t think we need to worry about rainwater infiltration here. You can even see a dry strip in that area during heavy rain...

At the time, we installed dimpled membranes directly on the facade, had to backfill with sand, then laid a 10cm (4 inches) layer of crushed stone underneath and on top are 8cm (3 inches) thick pavers (20x30cm (8x12 inches)).

We are now considering removing two rows of stones. This would create a 40cm (16 inches) wide strip along the facade. To emphasize this, we want to set 10x10cm (4x4 inches) granite pavers as an edging and fill the remaining 30cm (12 inches) next to the facade with gravel. Since the pavers to be removed are only 8cm (3 inches) thick, the gravel layer would also be 8cm (3 inches) thick, with crushed stone below that.

Do you see any issues with this? What should we watch out for?

Thanks and best regards

I am just an amateur, but I can’t imagine there should be any problems. Currently, you have the panels on top, and they would also allow water to pass through – just like gravel.

Your basement is waterproofed with the dimpled membrane.
