Hello,

I am hoping for some help or ideas regarding my project.

Here is what I am planning...

Our house is situated somewhat elevated on a small "hill." There is a walkway running alongside the house. Currently, there is a hedge about 1.60 meters (5 feet 3 inches) high between the walkway and the house.
We are now considering removing this hedge because it requires a lot of maintenance.
Our plan is to install a mesh panel fence between the house and the walkway. The problem is that the slope needs to be secured. I would like to solve this issue in a cost-effective way with minimal effort (as always 😀). Initially, I thought about using so-called L-shaped concrete blocks. However, these are quite expensive and difficult to work with.
Since the retaining wall will not be visible later on, its appearance does not matter at all...

I have also made a sketch of my idea for you. Perhaps you have a few suggestions...
P.S. The length of the fence is approximately 10 to 15 meters (33 to 49 feet).

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards

Supporting with concrete planting rings? About 1.90 meters (6 feet 3 inches) each, currently advertised at toom hardware store. Karsten

Thanks for the idea!
Should I fill the rings with soil or (for stability)?
I looked it up on Google… usually, they are stacked on top of each other but leaning slightly uphill. However, can I also stack these stones directly on top of each other—straight vertical?

Sorry for asking more detailed questions… I’m 26 years old and just starting with construction—building my own home—now… 🙁 😕 😀

A wall... retaining soil up to 1.2m (4 feet) high, ... with these concrete planter rings and installed vertically... seriously: have it done properly with L-shaped concrete blocks, otherwise it simply won’t hold (and it’s dangerous for anyone walking along the path...). L-shaped blocks are already a fairly affordable solution...

L-shaped concrete blocks are quite affordable. Do you want to put a fence in front of them? Plant a small hedge on top...

L-shaped concrete blocks measuring 1.20 m (4 feet) high and 0.50 m (1.6 feet) wide cost around €95.00 and weigh 220 kg (485 lbs)... which is quite expensive for lengths over 10 meters (33 feet) :-(

If I use L-shaped blocks instead of a fence, I would save money on the fence. However, that means extra work maintaining the hedge 🙄
