Hello,

I am hoping for some help or ideas regarding my project.

Here is what I am planning...

Our house is situated somewhat elevated on a small "hill." There is a walkway running alongside the house. Currently, there is a hedge about 1.60 meters (5 feet 3 inches) high between the walkway and the house.
We are now considering removing this hedge because it requires a lot of maintenance.
Our plan is to install a mesh panel fence between the house and the walkway. The problem is that the slope needs to be secured. I would like to solve this issue in a cost-effective way with minimal effort (as always 😀). Initially, I thought about using so-called L-shaped concrete blocks. However, these are quite expensive and difficult to work with.
Since the retaining wall will not be visible later on, its appearance does not matter at all...

I have also made a sketch of my idea for you. Perhaps you have a few suggestions...
P.S. The length of the fence is approximately 10 to 15 meters (33 to 49 feet).

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards

The planting rings can be filled with soil. However, they should support the slope at an angle, not exactly vertical.

Why not build gabions yourself? At a height of 1.20 m (4 feet), it’s quite manageable. Also, it’s more cost-effective than using L-shaped retaining blocks.
However, please make sure to install a welded wire fence on top as a safety barrier due to the risk of falling!

I also quite like the idea of using gabions.

However, you should be aware that 10 meters will easily cost you 2,000–3,000 euros, possibly even more.

Alternatively, you can pour a foundation and place concrete blocks on top. Then put the fence on the concrete blocks.
The blocks should be filled with reinforcement and concrete, as 1.2 meters (4 feet) will exert a lot of pressure.
