We are currently trying to decide what kind of decorative fence to put at the front. Since it’s 40 meters (130 feet), it’s not a quick job. Unfortunately, it’s starting to look like it will turn into a lot of work.

At the moment, I’m leaning towards a wooden fence with a stone base underneath. Since our carport and shed are already made of wood, this would probably fit best visually. Metal would, of course, be more durable—but it’s also more expensive and doesn’t match as well. I would also like a hedge, but my husband isn’t satisfied with that, and the shrubs grow very slowly here.

What have you all done? Could you share some photos? Thanks!

It’s a matter of personal preference. Since our house is situated slightly above street level, I find a front fence unnecessary. We bought granite blocks for 15 euros each and used them to reinforce the slope towards the street, which creates a natural boundary. Gates for the driveway can be inconvenient in daily life. On the western side, we planted a hornbeam hedge. To the south, there is an embankment with vegetation, and on the eastern side, the garage is built along the boundary line, including the driveway. This leaves little need for additional boundary structures. Any further boundary measures on the east side should be taken care of by the neighbor if they want something. I’m generally not a fan of fences. Karsten

Hmm, dear people. It doesn’t help me much if you all tell me that you don’t have fences and don’t like them. Okay, I’ll say again that a country without fences would be wonderful. But we need a fence. I would also like to have one because I would like to have a dog someday, but don’t tell my husband!

We regularly have dog poop on our lawn. It doesn’t bother me. I just clean it up and that’s it.

I do hope that, as a responsible finder, you hand it over to the owners the next time you see them.

Tracking down the responsible party is quite difficult. I would have to arrange a DNA analysis, but it’s not worth it to me.
However, in other countries, this has been common practice for some time. I find that quite amusing.

Still, I would try the fence solution..., to stay on topic.

which still does not clarify what is stated in the descriptive part of your development plan.
In our case, it specifies no solid fencing on the street side. So a hedge according to personal preference.

For us, it says no solid fencing facing the street. So a hedge according to personal taste

Well, nothing. There is no such thing here.
This is the most backward small town. There isn’t even a sidewalk. Building regulations were only established last year, but fences are not mentioned at all.
