ᐅ Floor plan with laundry chute, recesses, and wall projections

Good morning!

The floor plan of our house is basically finalized, and now we are looking for useful and practical ideas that we could still incorporate into the layout. So far, we have planned, for example:

- a laundry chute in the bathroom on the upper floor to transport laundry directly to the utility room

- wall recesses as storage space behind the washbasins and toilets, as well as in the showers

- a niche in the hallway for coat storage and a shoe rack

Do you have any other practical ideas that we could or should consider?

Show your floor plan and we might be able to help. Without an original floor plan, generic advice won’t be useful; that would only be piecemeal.

I don’t like shelves behind sinks. The mirror ends up being too far away when the sink has a standard depth. But I’m only 1.64 meters (5 feet 5 inches) tall.

An ideal solution here would be to have a utility room on the upper floor for washing.

Those aren’t wall recesses but service installations. These also take up space. Alternatively, you can make them deeper and/or longer where it fits. Therefore, they should also be considered in the design.

It’s better not to plan for a niche but rather a free wall that might be slightly longer or even a whole closet, so it’s no longer really a niche.

Nevertheless, all three elements influence the floor plan, so the design can only develop _with_ these “ideas.”

But only if you do not want to hang laundry outside to dry. Otherwise, you would have to carry the clean, wet laundry downstairs, which is less practical than bringing the dirty laundry down. I would never recommend that.
