Hello everyone,
since we plan to build next year, I wanted to ask if there is a price difference between a rectangular floor plan (14m x 8m (46ft x 26ft)) and a square floor plan (11m x 10m (36ft x 33ft)). Both would fit on the plot.

Looking forward to your answers.

Best regards, Inge

Yes, because 112 sqm (1206 sq ft) living area is more expensive than 110 sqm (1184 sq ft).

Kind regards

Putting aside the fact that a square is also a type of rectangle, a longer house with the same floor area will have more exterior wall. This, in turn, costs more.

If you compare the exterior dimensions, the longer exterior walls result in slightly less interior space. This means that flooring, underfloor heating, and screed will be somewhat cheaper.

As a layperson, I would assume that the 14x8 (meters) will be more expensive since it already has 2 m² (square meters) more floor area.
14 x 8 = 44 m (meters) of continuous exterior wall
11 x 10 = 42 m (meters) of continuous exterior wall

The interior dimensions are likely approximately:
13.7 x 7.7 = 105.5 m² (square meters)
10.7 x 9.7 = 103.8 m² (square meters)

So, there is both more exterior wall and higher interior finishing costs for the longer-shaped building.
