Hello, our house needs facade renovation. We have received very different offers and renovation methods, and it feels like every contractor recommends something different. What would be the best approach? Is paint stripping advisable or necessary? Has anyone had experience with (Kobau) elastic mesh, or does it cause the building to lose breathability? As you can see in the photos, the facade already has many patched cracks.

What exactly does "facade renovation" mean? What is the goal of the renovation?
Stripping paint only means removing the old paint from the facade. Is that necessary? And what will be done afterwards?

Or does this mean the building can no longer breathe?

Hey, your house has windows. That’s how it has been "breathing" for 100 years, not through the walls. You can apply whatever you want. The house will not suffocate.

Moisture is partially entering through the cracks, causing mold indoors. This means the cracks need to be repaired and the facade should then be repainted. However, a tradesperson said that the old paint must definitely be stripped off beforehand. But as I said, it feels like every contractor tells a different story.

OMG – continuous cracks reaching all the way through to the interior...
More than just some filler and paint will be needed here. To be honest, I would consider a thorough renovation, including insulation. It won’t be much more expensive.
