Hello and welcome. I am new here and need your professional advice.

Our friends (who are a bit older) have bought a finished small house with underfloor heating. The old floor (laminate) has been removed, leaving bare screed. A partition wall (non-load-bearing) is to be extended by 10 cm (4 inches). The thickness/width of the wall is also 10 cm (4 inches). The wall construction is described as "solid gypsum wallboard panels."

What is the best way to carry out this extension? I initially thought of using wooden beams, but after some research, I found that wood can be too "flexible," which could cause cracks in the wall, especially at the joint between the original wall and the extension.

How would you approach this? The extension should be stable, and the joints should be straight. Thank you very much!

Is the wall now a solid masonry wall or a framed wall (i.e., covered with drywall panels, commonly known as plasterboard or drywall)?

I would simply attach a drywall partition. If done properly, you won’t see anything; the wall will then be constructed in the same way as the existing wall.

As far as I understand, with drywall panels.

What is the best way to extend a drywall partition by 10 cm (4 inches)?

The same way as you would with a 5m (16 ft) long wall.

A stud frame (metal or wood), then sheathing. Fill joints and corners with joint compound (using edge protection, mesh tape, etc.).

Have you tried searching online?
