nipdizzle16 Jul 2018 16:34Good day,
I have already searched through the forums but could not find any posts related to my topic. Perhaps I overlooked something.
My wife and I want to build a single-family house and have come across the option of steel frame construction. This method is not very common in Germany. Abroad, for example in the USA, this construction type is often used. We have already found a sponsor willing to build with us using this method. My question is: Has anyone heard of or had experience with this type of construction? Are there any negative experiences or concerns, for example regarding durability and quality (especially compared to a traditional masonry house)?
I would greatly appreciate any advice or help!
Kind regards

Steel constructionI assume you don’t mean steel or reinforced concrete bunkers, right?
So, what materials are the walls or panels made of in your case? Wood? Solid construction? Gypsum boards?
Steel has a major disadvantage in energy-efficient house construction because it conducts heat much better. Wooden studs perform just as well but don’t necessarily require additional insulation.
Houses here also don’t need to be designed to resist termites.
In this market segment, there are so few providers that I don’t know a single one. It is so unpopular or irrelevant to the market that you can hardly find any experiences or even comparisons between different providers. When I occasionally come across something like this, it has only been bungalows—that is, no multi-story buildings.
