Hello Dear Community.

In another thread, the topic of rimless toilets came up.
I would appreciate it if those of you who already own such a model could share your experiences.
I personally chose the Keramag Icon/4U model.
Thanks to ypg, I won’t be changing my decision anymore.
However, there may still be other community members who are facing this decision.

Good luck

We decided to go with rimless toilets. I hope this reduces the hassle when cleaning.

I still remember how, 15 years ago during our bathroom renovation, they tried to sell us a toilet with a lotus effect (inside). For five times the price of a standard toilet. As if that would eliminate the need for cleaning... Are these bowls still being offered nowadays?

asks Yvonne

I think so.
What used to be called the lotus effect is now offered under different brand names depending on the manufacturer, with an additional charge. Keratect or Wondergliss or something like that (the names make me shudder…).

I always wanted the Subway model from Villeroy & Boch. However, I didn’t like the open rim design, so we went with the Keramag Icon for the guest bathroom and the house brand Derby for the upstairs bathrooms, which is identical to the Keramag Renova Nr. 1. All three are rimless flush toilets, and so far we have no complaints. We have only tested the toilets during the construction phase. It was also important to us that a standard toilet seat fits these toilets for the bathrooms. Our plumber even took photos with a standard toilet seat beforehand and showed them to us. My kids would like a colorful one like that for their bathroom.

Regarding these coated toilets, our plumber says, “It’s just a way to make money and waste money.”

Two more points from me:
I just asked my wife about cleaning the toilets. She said that the new rimless toilet is easier to clean. However, she wouldn’t need fewer cleaning products – okay, but our kids are now using the toilet more often instead of diapers or potty.

Friends of ours had originally recommended rimless toilets. They ended up getting some from Keramag.
About six months after moving in, they told us they probably wouldn’t choose them again. The reason seems to be the toilet cleaning. When the lid is up and they flush to clean, water often splashes over the edge. If the lid is down, the splash is stopped by the lid.

And this "splash" is explained in my posts, see from

Just asked my wife – urine on the underside of the toilet seat is "within the normal range2" – meaning, it’s the same as with the old toilet.

However, we’ve noticed that when emptying the potty, stool tends to stick more, and the toilet brush isn’t quite as effective at cleaning it off. The reason is probably that the ceramic has some kind of coating. Unfortunately, the stool sticks, but the brush just slides over it.

Hmm – kind of an unpleasant topic at the moment.
