Hello,

I am planning to purchase a 2-seat Ektorp sofa in the near future. I still have two questions that are bothering me.

Which upholstery should I choose? I would prefer Svanby Brown. Unfortunately, Idemo Beige is no longer available. Alternatively, there is Idemo Black, and the whole sofa would be 80€ cheaper, but is it worth it? Over time, the 80€ difference might level out. Also, a black sofa would make the room overall quite dark. My other furniture is birch veneer or white.

Additionally, I have a Golf V. Will the sofa fit inside, or will I need to have it delivered?

Hi!

Package Dimensions and Weight
Item Number 001.850.32

Width 87 cm (34 inches)
Height 40 cm (16 inches)
Length 200 cm (79 inches)
Weight 56.2 kg (124 lbs)

I was barely able to fit the Ektorp armchair into my Golf 3 by folding down the back seat. And that was just the armchair.

Better measure your car carefully based on the dimensions given above…

I mistakenly misread the dimensions and thought the large box was 56x40x200 cm (22x16x79 inches) and assumed it could be stored to the right of the driver’s seat. But it was actually 87 cm (34 inches), so the package stuck out halfway at the back. I had to quickly buy some straps at IKEA; luckily, IKEA had them in stock, then drove 15 km (9 miles) home! I ended up choosing the Svanby in brown after all!

So far, I’m really pleased with the seating comfort!

If necessary, you can unpack the Ektorp and leave the cardboard at IKEA. I’m not sure how the Ektorp is assembled, but its predecessor, the Ekeskog, comes in relatively manageable and lightweight individual parts (for example, the backrests and the middle section are two separate pieces, which reduces the total length by more than half a meter (more than 1.5 feet)). Finally, you simply put the cover over it and place the seat and back cushions on top. Maybe the Ektorp is similar, so you might need much less space than you expect...

You could send an email to IKEA and ask how large the individual parts are if the Ektorp is available in separate pieces.

If you can’t find the cover at IKEA, there are now quite a few other suppliers that make covers for IKEA furniture. The largest one is *deleted* – in Germany, there are some at *deleted*.
