Hi everyone,

Decorations are nice and all, but my roommate is really overdoing it. I live in a shared apartment with four people, and about six months ago a new girl joined us. Gradually, the decorative items in our shared living room have been increasing more and more.

I admit, the decor was very minimal before, and sticking used beer labels on the wall wasn’t to everyone’s taste. But you can definitely go too far, and now there’s hardly a spot left without some little bottle with a plastic flower or something similar on it. Don’t get me wrong, it does look better than before and she has good taste, but whoever is in charge of cleaning spends ages dusting all those things. It really doesn’t have to be like that – keyword: healthy balance!!

Just had to get that off my chest. Thanks

How amazing is this story!!!! Your roommate’s comment rocks: Why, it doesn’t bother anyone!

Anyway, I have to agree with you: women do create a lot of mess and really make living together quite difficult..... I’ve also experienced at work that even the women’s restrooms can leave a lot to be desired. But regardless of whether male or female, finding the right roommate is quite a challenge.

Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Haha, I find this discussion really funny.
I think a little bit of imperfection doesn’t hurt, but what I find unpleasant are apartments where it’s obvious immediately when something is moved. Like when vases are placed symmetrically in a cabinet compartment and so on. I find that really fussy and unpleasant. In such apartments, I always like to have a little fun by creating some “disorder.”

I know that! Decoration is sometimes really unnecessary!

Okay, naughty Ikea, very naughty...

Look at it this way. If you bring a girl home and she only notices the usual old-fashioned "men's decorations," like worn underwear, very old pizzas, and the beer bottle collection, she’ll leave right away. Nicely decorated, she feels comfortable and might even stay longer.

Well.

Fortunately, there is no stress about that in our home. I think a bit of decoration is really nice, as long as it’s not overdone! We have many pictures around, and I always like pictures because they are also memories. I also like flowers, but they should be real. I’m also fine with having a few decorative figurines here and there, but everything in moderation 😉

Decorations are nice because they make the home feel comfortable and personalized, but too much can become annoying. I can understand that well.
