Hello everyone,

Today we got some quotes for the garage door and the utility room door, and now we are wondering whether we should install a T30 fire door or at least a soundproof door in the utility/technical room.

The access to this room is from the hallway next to the living room door. There is a load-bearing wall between the rooms, which should provide significant sound insulation, but what about the doors? Between the utility room and the living room, there will only be a full glass door, and it’s questionable whether it will always be kept closed. A standard interior door to the utility room probably won’t be able to block the noise from the washing machine and other equipment, right?

It doesn’t have to be a fire-rated door since we only have a heat pump. However, besides the heat pump, the room will also house the photovoltaic system, the mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, and as mentioned, the washing machine and dryer.

How have you handled this?

@f-pNo: What was causing that terrible noise from your acquaintance’s inverter?

I can’t tell you – I didn’t ask further.
He only pointed out to watch out for it and mentioned that they were so disturbed by it that the inverter had to be relocated.
So I have since always specifically checked the decibel level.

Hello,

if I understand your question correctly, milke, you mean the door from the utility room to the garage. Of course, this must be a fire-rated door with a 90-minute fire resistance (T90); a standard interior door is sufficient for the door from the utility room to the hallway.

No, we meant the door between the utility room and the hallway. The garage does not have direct access to the house.

But we will probably have to pay attention to the sound insulation values as well.
