This is about my planned extension, which will have almost exclusively fixed glazing (only the door leading to the terrace can be opened).

Grundriss eines Gebäudeteils: Wohnzimmer 34,70 m², Baugrenze und Brandwand, Maße sichtbar.

Now I am completely unsure about how many sections I should divide the panes into.
The window facing the terrace (east) is already fixed, and the main question concerns the large south-facing window and the "smaller" north-facing window, whose total size and position are already fixed.

South window:
This one must be divided at least once.
So the options are:
5335mm (210 inches) total
2 sections -> 2667mm (105 inches) each
3 sections -> 1778mm (70 inches) each

North window:
Here a single section would also be possible.
The options are:
2750mm (108 inches) total
1 section -> 2750mm (108 inches)
2 sections -> 1375mm (54 inches) each

Larger windows would of course look nicer, I think, and there would be some symmetry since all sections would be about the same size (267cm (105 inches) and 275cm (108 inches)).
Now I am starting to worry about the risk of glass breakage and the higher replacement costs that come with large panes.
(A glass breakage insurance is relatively expensive compared to other insurance policies.)

How would you decide in this situation?

North elevation:

Architekten-Schnitt eines Einfamilienhauses mit Holzverkleidung, Terrasse, Garage und Maßangaben.

South elevation:

Zweistöckiges Haus mit linkem Flachdach-Anbau, Glasfronten, Balkon und Maßangaben.

Just ask the contractor what is feasible. If you want to handle it yourself, consult the glazier and present your project, or reach out to a window manufacturer.

What could possibly cause glass breakage there?

What is possible has already been discussed long ago.
All of this is achievable without much extra cost.
My main concern is how this behaves in the event of a possible defect and how likely that is.

That’s exactly the question.
There is no dark sofa or anything like that against it on the inside, only larger plants.

I'm currently wondering how the windows are supposed to be cleaned through the railing.

How is the shading handled?
