Hello,
I am planning to build a prefabricated house. Let’s assume the house is built and there is soil and gravel around it.
Now I want to start landscaping the garden. How should the transition between the garden and the house be designed?
Is additional waterproofing required here?
Or in other words: How should the boundary between the garden (lawn) and the house be constructed?
Thanks and best regards,
Tom

You are installing a splash protection strip at the terrace and main entrance. Your home builder provides you with instructions on how to carry this out. For example, we applied a black waterproofing layer at the entrance. This was the type specified by our home builder.

Thank you,
I want to save some costs here and take care of part of the landscaping myself, without any time pressure.
So, is it possible to apply gravel / crushed stone directly against the house wall after a splash protection strip has been installed?

Your prefabricated house manufacturer should provide guidelines on how this should be done. Generally, the gravel strip must end 15cm (6 inches) below the house wall. The surrounding ground is then adjusted accordingly.

Cross-section of a ground structure: gravel bed, protection and drainage layer, wall waterproofing.

Gravel and crushed stone should never come into direct contact with the house wall, as this can damage the waterproofing of the base plaster. A dimpled membrane is placed in between as protection.

Thank you for this great picture.
This dimpled membrane is not visible from the outside because it is "under the house"?
Who can provide advice on this?

Yes, the dimpled membrane is usually not visible. It is either installed at the correct height or cut accordingly (using small boards or similar in front of the wall to avoid damaging the waterproofing). The topmost bricks can then be laid by hand.

Landscapers are familiar with this. Many structural builders also perform this kind of work. However, it can also be done as a DIY task.
