ᐅ Creating a pedestrian pathway – should the base layer be made with gravel?

the groundwork for my house will start soon. We will be building in the second row, so we have planned a longer walkway to our main entrance. How should the subbase of such a walkway be constructed? Is a layer of gravel enough? I would like to have some vegetation next to the path. Is there anything I should consider? I plan to properly pave the walkway at a later stage. Do I need to pay attention to anything now regarding the subbase for this?

Where is the construction access road located? That would be a good base for the driveway and path.

For me, the driveway and the footpath to the garden gate are separate (because I have two access routes). The driveway will be gravelled and compacted anyway.

Remove any unsuitable soil now and add crushed stone while you still have easy access to the pathway. The rest can then be finished by the paver with a mini excavator after the house is built.

What do you mean by paving later? After the house is completed, or "sometime after moving in when you have the money and motivation again"? I can only recommend having the paving finished before you move in. Otherwise, you'll just track dirt and stones into the new house.

To be honest, the routing of the paths reminds me a bit of the one-way street regulations for the postal voting office at the state election ten days ago 🙂

Thank you, 11ant. I couldn’t even remember this picture from the thread. But now I will go ahead with the blue route. Unfortunately, you can’t choose the plots, and I would have preferred it differently, believe me. By the way, in the picture, south is on the right.
