ᐅ Creating a pedestrian pathway – should the base layer be made with gravel?

HausnerHello,
the groundwork for my house will start soon. We will be building in the second row, so we have planned a longer walkway to our main entrance. How should the subbase of such a walkway be constructed? Is a layer of gravel enough? I would like to have some vegetation next to the path. Is there anything I should consider? I plan to properly pave the walkway at a later stage. Do I need to pay attention to anything now regarding the subbase for this?

What do you mean by paving later? After the house is completed, or "sometime after moving in when you have the money and motivation again"? I can only recommend having the paving finished before you move in. Otherwise, you'll just track dirt and stones into the new house.

For me, the driveway and the pedestrian path to the garden gate are separate (because I have two access routes). The driveway will be covered with gravel and compacted anyway.see also: https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/auflage-zur-leitungsfuehrung-und-zufahrt-der-baustellenfahrzeuge.38453/ – although I seem to recall that in https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/zwei-zufahrten-zuweg-fuer-gaeste-wegfuehrung.37445/ there was a subtle hint that the access path could be solved in a way more complex than necessary ;-)To be honest, the routing of the paths reminds me a bit of the one-way street regulations for the postal voting office at the state election ten days ago 🙂
