Hello everyone,

I am considering getting a compost bin for our two garden beds (carrots, strawberries, peas, tomatoes, cucumbers).

I am concerned about rats and mice. Is it possible to prevent them? How is it for those of you who have one? Do you have any tips for me?

Best regards

We have two KDI composters measuring 1 x 1 meter (3.3 x 3.3 feet), as well as a small and a large thermocomposter.

There is a lot of green waste, shredded material, grass, leaves, and also all kitchen scraps that are not cooked or meat-based go in there.

Yesterday, while turning the compost, a small furry creature escaped. It was probably a mouse. I apologized.

We have a compost bin and two bokashi buckets. Suitable garden waste goes into the compost, while kitchen scraps are placed in the bokashi buckets. Rats are not an issue here, mice are common – as well as martens, polecats, foxes, and kites...
