In terms of thermal insulation, that bit of plastic doesn’t really add much, does it? For darkening, I can also use interior blinds. What do you think, how much do exterior roller shutters contribute to thermal insulation?

MODERATOR31 Aug 2012 23:12There are special thermal insulation roller shutters; however, the standard roller shutters seen on most houses do not provide effective thermal insulation (nor do they significantly improve burglary resistance).
For summer heat protection, exterior roller shutters are better than interior blinds; otherwise, interior venetian blinds or roller blinds also provide good darkening.

Hi,
I also had new windows installed with triple glazing. The question of whether to install shutters or not came up. I decided to go for them because I find it much cozier in the evening, especially during the winter months. They also provide effective sound insulation, as there is a busy road very close by.
