Hello, I want to build or have built an exterior spiral staircase myself. It should be made of concrete – and if possible with a child-safe handrail. I live in South Africa, where building regulations are hardly or not enforced at all, but of course I want to build a safe and good staircase. Who can provide or link me to a guide for this? Unfortunately, I haven’t found anything on Google. Thank you!

Hello Jambo11,

Pouring a spiral staircase in concrete is – with all due respect – not a task for someone who needs step-by-step instructions. Just creating the formwork alone is quite challenging...

My suggestion: Have a staircase made from precast concrete elements delivered; you might be able to assemble it yourself with a few helpers. Look for helpers who have construction experience.

All other details should be discussed with the supplier, such as the type of installation, foundation, handrails...
