tabtabHello,
Our basement is currently being shuttered, and we have been offered two options for waterproofing.
1) Manual application of a bituminous thick coating, applied "by hand," so to speak.
2) Using the Delta Thene system, a self-adhesive bituminous thick coating.
The advantages of the second option include consistent coating thickness, radon protection, ease and reliability of application, etc. There is also a #link removed by moderation; building expert, where the application is very well explained over about 2 meters (6.5 feet) (I hope it’s okay to post this, otherwise please remove it – it can be found under the name: Delta Foundation Protection System).
What do you think of this? Is it better than the standard method? I originally wanted to play it safe and apply a coating according to exposure class 6 (water pressure) with at least 4mm (0.16 inches) thickness, but with the Delta system this is only possible according to DIN 18195 Part 4 and Part 5 – though it does offer neat corner execution and even thickness. This can be tricky with manual application...
It should be noted that for us this would be sufficient since we have drainage in place. So, technically, waterproofing for water pressure is unnecessary due to the drainage. At first glance, the Delta Thene system seems like a good choice because it provides easy application, effective waterproofing, and uniform coating thickness.
What do you say? I’m attaching the official product flyer – I hope it’s okay to share. Otherwise, please remove it! It can also be found online by searching for Doerken Delta-Thene.

No, the basement will be cast in situ using cast-in-place concrete. That’s why the shell elements are used. That means nothing.
