ᐅ Unpleasant Surprise with the Basement Staircase

Hello Forum,

I have completely removed my driveway and also took out the concrete floor around the basement stairs. Underneath, I found a heavily damaged concrete foundation on which the basement stair tiles were installed. Some of the upper tiles no longer have proper support and are loose. I think this is going to be a major headache and won’t be cheap.

Now to my question:
What kind of costs should I roughly expect for repairing such a problem?
And is it a big job?
I understand it’s hard to answer this in general, but I would at least like to get a rough idea of the price range I might be dealing with.

Concrete isn’t expensive... the question is whether you want concrete and new tiles. That will be more costly due to the installation.

Hello. Thanks for your response. My concern is about the condition of the concrete foundation. I want to know how it is done so that something like this doesn’t happen again, and whether this process is very complex and costly.

It looks like someone skimped on the cement when it was made. I don’t see any steel reinforcement either.

If you want to remove everything and recast the staircase with formwork, I would budget at least €10,000, or possibly around €5,000 if you find a cheap unregistered worker.

I hope the remark about illegal workers is just a joke!!!
