I need some advice regarding an awning.
Our terrace faces south and measures 10 meters (33 feet) wide and 4.30 meters (14 feet) deep. Since it gets quite warm in summer, we need some shade. We don’t want umbrellas. Originally, we considered a fixed roof, but we discarded that option because 1. it is too expensive, and 2. we don’t like the posts.
You enter the terrace through a sliding door on the right half and then sit on the left half.
Now I have two offers but can’t really decide. What do you think?
Option 1: Klaiber Resobox BX8000
ONE awning, 9.40 meters (31 feet) wide with a 4-meter (13 feet) projection.
+ Possibly looks better
- We like the cassette less than that of the BX4500
Option 2: Klaiber Camabox BX4500
TWO awnings placed directly next to each other: one 5 meters (16 feet) and one 4.4 meters (14 feet) wide, each with a 4-meter (13 feet) projection.
+ We like the cassette of this model much better
+ More flexibility in shading different sides of the terrace
- Gap between the awnings
- Both awnings must be installed perfectly to look right
Option 2 is about 300€ more expensive, which is not a decisive factor.

Matthew0326 Mar 2020 10:40What are your habits? Does SHE like to lounge in the sun for a while while HE reads in the shade (or vice versa)? Does the sun lover really get to enjoy their hobby often enough, and can they not simply move a few meters away?
How is the situation with the patio furniture and its arrangement?
You prefer the cubic design, okay. I do too, but in this case, I would still prefer one awning instead of two.

Pinkiponk26 Mar 2020 11:05I just had a look at both awnings. Although I prefer the Klaiber Resobox BX8000 because of its rounded shape (I generally like rounded shapes better, as I find them softer and therefore more pleasing), compared to the Klaiber Camabox BX4500, I think you should go with option 2. My main argument is the flexibility regarding shading. And if you prefer the cassette design, that’s great.
A third option came to mind regarding your two choices. Instead of one large awning or two medium-sized ones, you could also consider three smaller awnings.[/I]

Our under-roof awning measures 5m x 4.5m (16.4 ft x 14.8 ft), and honestly, I can’t imagine this structure remaining stable as a standalone awning in wind. Have you considered how windy it typically is where you live? Despite a 50kg (110 lbs) base, no umbrella here has stayed in position, so we opted for a fixed patio structure with an electric under-roof awning.
What is the cost of that setup? I wouldn’t go for a large cassette because it’s too inflexible.

Thanks for the answers.
Regarding stability: If the manufacturer offers this awning up to 18m (59 feet) wide, I assume it is stable enough. How windy is it here? Hmm, how do I best answer that? Just normal. We are in the Rhein-Pfalz district and live in a single-family house. There are no wind turbines nearby, so the region is probably not very windy.
Another approach is based on sun habits. I prefer to sit a bit in the shade, while my wife loves the sun. However, there are other spots in the garden for sunbathing. We also like to work on the terrace, so having shade there is useful.
Three awnings are definitely out. That wouldn't fit aesthetically, and I don’t have the wiring for three awnings either.
Here is a picture:
The upper floor slightly protrudes. There is a bend in the middle of the exterior wall. The middle light would basically be where the awnings would be divided if there are two. Unfortunately, the downspout is all the way on the far left, so I cannot make two awnings of equal size.

Matthew0326 Mar 2020 11:45Why do you even need one on the left side? In the photo, it looks like there is just a "traffic zone" there, while the social area seems to be on the right... So, based on the photo, I would personally add an awning on the 5 meters (16 feet) to the right, and then sunbathe on a lounge chair in the garden.
OT: What is to the right of the raised bed? It looks like a small foot bath.
OT2: Everything looks great!
