Hello,

in our garage (which is part of the house), a loft ladder is planned to access the attic above.

Are there minimum clearance distances from the walls that must be observed? Or can I install it almost flush against the wall?

The issue here is that our car is 5m (16 feet) long, and the stairwell would end right in front of it...
Every centimeter closer to the wall protects my car...
As a precaution, I have also included the upper floor in the image (unfilled blocks).

To the left of the car, a motorcycle and car parts are stored, so I can’t really install the ladder access there.
Also, moving the car out every time isn’t an option...

So, we don’t have a railing like that either in the older building or in the covered garage… doesn’t really bother me ;-) I haven’t seen it anywhere so far… it only gets in the way…

That’s why I said officially. To my knowledge, the note is even included in the stair installation instructions.
If you leave it out and something happens, it’s your own responsibility. You just need to be careful when children are involved.

The problem with the side feed is that either you hit one of the two walls at the bottom or one of the two walls at the top.
So you can only pass long items straight up. It depends on the ceiling height.
Due to the sloping roof, we barely managed to get the 3m (10 feet) tongue-and-groove boards up to the roof.
With your exterior door, it should be easier to handle something like this.
