Hello Ikea fans,

Just joined and already need your help.

I want to have a cabinet for my kitchen. Requirements:
At least 100cm (40 inches) wide, as tall as possible, 60cm (24 inches) deep, many drawers and shelves, everything closed, and it should be inexpensive.

The Metod series can easily be put together like that, but unfortunately not cheaply. So I want to assemble it from used Pax and Besta modules instead. Because these are more commonly available secondhand than individual Metod cabinets.

The main problem is that with Pax, the doors go all the way from top to bottom and the drawers are only inside. The problem with Besta is that it isn’t deep enough. So the question is: can doors and drawers from Besta possibly be mounted on Pax?

Alternatively, I thought about the wardrobes and dressers from the Stuva series, but I don’t like that the doors have holes. Is there maybe a trick to fix that?

Thanks for all your ideas!

Why this idea? The METOD kitchen is expensive mainly because of the fronts, end panels, and soft-closing drawers. If you buy just a METOD cabinet box with VEDDINGE fronts, you get more affordable prices. Take a look at the prices for METOD cabinet boxes:

White open cabinet box with perforated side panel, no doors present.

Then you’ll realize that the DIY modifications are hardly worth it, especially since with PAX and similar systems, you have different hole spacing that doesn’t fit METOD accessories.

The HÄGGEBY cabinet front makes it even more affordable. Have you already checked out Knoxhult and FYNDIG?

PAX doesn’t match the width of anything else, and BESTA and Stuva cabinets are not sturdy enough for the kitchen due to their hollow carcasses.
Maybe you can also find a good deal on a used Faktum kitchen.
