Hello,

what alternatives are there to LED recessed downlights in a concrete ceiling?
My builder wants 120€ per spot (halogen housing), which unfortunately exceeds our budget.

I agree: standard ceiling outlets! There’s nothing wrong with that; there are attractive ceiling lights available.
If some rooms are to be fitted with spotlights, it’s best to coordinate this directly with the electrician.

I also wanted the built-in spotlights to be space-saving and not noticeable when they are turned off. But €6000 just for spotlights is too much. Therefore, I am now looking for as flat as possible 230V LED surface-mounted spotlights (or something similar), but so far I haven’t found anything suitable.

You will never achieve the same result with recessed spots as with regular spotlights... I was looking for that too. Saving space is a strange argument... few people actually need space on the ceiling.
If you have a suitable ceiling height, you could also lower parts of your ceiling and install indirect lighting and spotlights there. When done properly, it looks ten times better than regular spotlights.

Hello,
Your builder only needs to ensure that the recessed housings are cast into the concrete ceiling, unless you have a prefabricated ceiling system.
We have a few more spotlights; I think the housings alone cost 40 € each... We handled the installation and selection of the spotlights together with our electrician. I’m not exactly sure about their price.
You might want to check the prices of nice lamps, for example from Artemide—the cost difference becomes quite clear there.
