ᐅ After mounting the wall unit, the gap between the wall and the KALLAX is too large – any tips?

Hello everyone,
I recently assembled my furniture wall unit with a KALLAX shelf from the Swedish retailer. I noticed that there is a relatively large gap between the back of the KALLAX and the wall, much wider than expected. The distance is about 4-5 cm (1.5-2 inches), which not only looks unattractive but also allows small items to slip behind.
I checked if the wall is uneven, and there are slight irregularities, but they shouldn’t cause such a big gap. I followed the assembly instructions and drilling points exactly and even used a level.
Do you have any tips on how to reduce the gap between the wall and the KALLAX or how to get the shelf closer to the wall? Are there special spacers, mounting tips, or tricks that I might have missed? I would appreciate any advice that could help.
Thanks and best regards!

Additionally, I would like to mention the following:
The KALLAX often has adjustable feet or bases that are not always perfectly aligned. Check whether these are set correctly, as improper adjustment can cause the furniture to stand slightly away from the wall.
Also, the wall hooks or screws with anchors should be positioned at exactly the right height. If they are installed too low or too far to the side, the gap you describe can occur.
Sometimes, tilting the shelf slightly and rehanging it can help – tiny adjustments in position can significantly reduce the distance.

Hello CARELKE,
I see your problem similarly to Lyndon55. Here is a small tutorial with useful tips for KALLAX furniture to optimize its placement against the wall:
1. Check the wall: Use a long spirit level or a straight edge to inspect all prominent sections of the wall for unevenness.
2. Adjust the back panel fixing: Loosen the screws carefully and slightly reposition the brackets if necessary.
3. Alternative fixing: Sometimes it makes sense to drill new holes in addition to the existing ones in the KALLAX unit to pull the furniture closer to the wall. Precision and caution are important here.
4. Fine spacers: Instead of wooden strips, thin plastic films or furniture glides can be used; these are more flexible and do not leave visible marks.
5. Finally: Any gaps can be concealed with wall paint or foam strips.
Good luck with the adjustment!

The combination of your advice really makes sense and now gives me a clear plan of action. Thanks to everyone who contributed such helpful and well-founded tips 🙂
