ᐅ Actual Energy Consumption versus Energy Performance Calculation

Good evening,

Starting in March, I will be constructing a bungalow according to the KfW70 energy savings standard from 2014. At the moment, I am considering whether to equip my heating system with solar thermal support or not. My energy performance certificate shows a primary energy demand of 41 kWh/a per m² (13 kWh/a per ft²). I will be installing a gas heating system.

My question is: How much does this figure typically differ from the actual future consumption?

To calculate the payback period, I also need to know the real effect of solar thermal support on heating.

Perhaps there are experts here in the forum who can help me with my decision.

Thank you in advance.

Bungalow 130m2 (1400 sq ft)
Porit 36cm (14 inches)
Insulated ground slab
Gas heating with solar-supported water heating
Cold hipped roof
Ventilation system
Saxony
300m (980 ft) above sea level
Ceiling with cellulose insulation

What else is important, thanks for the help?

I live at an altitude of about 250m (820 feet) in North Rhine-Westphalia, so the climate location is probably somewhat different. The house has a few more square meters, is not a bungalow, but has a basement, a different construction method, and also a ventilation system. The construction follows the 2009 Energy Saving Ordinance standard, KfW70. In the past 365 days, my heating and hot water costs were around 300€ (about $330), which is partly due to a mild winter here. The system uses a ground source heat pump; gas would likely be somewhat more expensive. Adding an additional system to support heating or hot water wouldn’t be worthwhile—even with a 30% saving (which hot water support generally doesn’t achieve, and heating support barely does, since the highest energy demand is when it’s cold and dark). That would amount to just about 100€ (about $110) per year. The investment wouldn’t pay off.

From what I can tell, some users here have at least a similar heating system, although not necessarily a bungalow of the same size. They might be able to quickly share some information on their costs. I also recall some threads from the past few weeks where users mentioned their consumption and the share of solar support.
