DanlaGebsa21 Jun 2020 09:21Hello,
we are still at the very beginning and have plots of 750 and 1222 square meters (8072 and 13150 square feet) to choose from.
The house will be between 160 and 190 square meters (1722 and 2045 square feet), two stories, with a double garage.
I really cannot imagine how much space will be left on a 750 square meter (8072 square feet) plot after subtracting the house with terrace, the double garage, and the driveway.
Do you perhaps have any pictures for comparison?
Many thanks and have a nice Sunday

The plots are roughly square.
How much garden space is ideal for a household of five with full-time working parents? Although I do dream of having some area for a vegetable garden, which my husband is not very keen on.

Bertram10021 Jun 2020 11:16I think the amount of space is often greatly overrated when it comes to living comfort. Even a small garden can be used well or designed nicely. On the smaller plot, you will still have around 600m² (7,230 sq ft) of space left. 600m² (7,230 sq ft)! That’s quite a lot, especially when you have to maintain it. And that’s just the smaller plot.
For children, the garden is mainly interesting for playing during their early years. Later, they want to play with friends and explore the outdoors. Honestly, I don’t know any family where playground equipment is used intensively over a long period. On the other hand, piles of wood and miscellaneous stuff remain interesting.
For a kitchen garden, you need to decide what you want: to plant a little and enjoy it, harvest twice for four meals, or produce a significant part of your own (vegetable) food supply?
You have the choice between fairly large and very large. Not between “this will cause problems, barely manageable” and “this might be a better option.”

Why not draw a house in your desired size on Google Maps over the two plots?
We have 750 sqm (8,073 sq ft) of land and the house is about 12 x 9 meters (39 x 30 feet), and by today's standards, we have a lot of garden... but that doesn't really help you now... you have to decide for yourself how much garden you need...

DanlaGebsa21 Jun 2020 11:31Thank you very much for your replies. It reassures me that the smaller plot of land is obviously sufficient. I am not planning any large-scale farming. Tomatoes, rhubarb, herbs, a few bushes – raspberries, etc. – will be enough. A terrace is important, and of course, a lawn. The children no longer need climbing frames in the garden. They are already 9, 11, and 12 years old.
The decision will probably lean towards 750 m² (8,073 sq ft).
I will try using Google Maps for that.
