Hello everyone,
I am currently dealing a lot with the packaging of Ikea Brimnes, especially since I have purchased and assembled several pieces from this series myself. I have noticed that there are recurring issues with the packaging that make the assembly and handling more difficult. Therefore, I am very interested to learn about the most common problems you have experienced with the Brimnes packaging.
To clarify: I am particularly interested in issues related directly to the packaging itself. This could include hard-to-read or incomplete labeling, damaged packaging materials, missing or incorrectly labeled individual parts inside the packaging, but also instability of the cartons during transport or difficulties with opening. If you have firsthand experience with typical challenges related to the Brimnes packaging, I would appreciate specific examples and descriptions. Perhaps there are differences depending on the individual furniture piece in the series or special tips on how to overcome these problems.
Thank you very much in advance for your knowledge and insights!

I find that the following issues frequently occur with Brimnes packaging:
- The strength of the cardboard boxes is sometimes inadequate, especially for larger parts, resulting in damaged corners during shipping. These damages can later cause problems during assembly because screw holes or edges may be crushed.
- The labeling of the packages is often inconsistently organized. This makes it easy to lose track when gathering the different components. It would be better if Ikea introduced a more consistent numbering system for the Brimnes series packages.
- In my experience, the internal packaging occasionally contains small parts that are not securely separated. This often leads to missing screws or dowels.
- Another issue is the box opening method: usually, you have to be quite rough to access the parts—the packaging is not designed for easy opening. Ikea could improve by combining better material protection with a more user-friendly opening solution.
I am also wondering if you have noticed specific problems with certain furniture pieces from this series.
This is important because the packaging is often the first point of contact with the product and makes an impression on its quality.

Hello Gojufo,
your question is very well formulated and goes exactly into the necessary depth!
From my experience, one of the biggest issues with the Brimnes packaging is the lack of protective padding, especially for the cabinet doors and larger wooden panels. Although these are packaged, the material often touches the cardboard walls directly – this can lead to scratches and dents. This is particularly problematic in packages that are frequently handled in storage and during shipping.
Additionally, some customers report that small parts in the bags or boxes are not properly secured. This often results in screws, dowels, or small fittings getting stuck in the edges of the cartons or even getting lost.
Basically, it is a balancing act between economical packaging size and protective function – Ikea often optimizes for the most compact packages possible. Unfortunately, this comes at the cost of material protection. Regarding opening the packages, I can say that the adhesive tapes are often so strong that you risk tearing the cardboard if you try to be careful.
I can confirm that – sometimes damaged goods arrive, and even if the furniture itself is fine, handling becomes more complicated.
If you want, I can gladly send you my list of tips on how to carefully open damaged packaging and better secure small parts.
