FerilisHello everyone,
I am planning to convert the IKEA BESTÅ system into a functional fertility room and am therefore specifically looking for tips on how best to modify or expand the modules to create both storage space and a comfortable atmosphere for the time leading up to pregnancy.
In particular, I am interested in whether it is advisable to additionally secure certain components or combine them with other materials to increase stability and safety. At the same time, I want to keep the option open to add more elements later if needed, for example for baby items or medical supplies.
Has anyone had experience with converting BESTÅ for this kind of use, perhaps also regarding suitable lighting or organization inside the cabinets?
I would be very grateful for concrete advice, preferably with suggestions for useful additions or sensible combinations!

This prevents tipping over.

For organization: small transparent boxes in various sizes work great for sorting items.
Enjoy the process – it’s sure to turn out great!
To enhance the safety and functionality of the IKEA BESTÅ system in the nursery or baby planning room, I recommend the following points:
- Secure all units firmly to the wall according to IKEA’s safety guidelines to prevent tipping hazards.
- Use inserts and storage boxes made of sturdy plastic or fabric that are easy to clean and protect against dust.
- For lighting, dimmable LED strips with warm white light are suitable, as they create a pleasant atmosphere and allow adjustable brightness.
- Consider adding casters under certain elements to make it easy to move the furniture when needed, without removing the wall fixings.
- Dividing compartments with flexible separators allows customization of the interior spaces, so that areas for medical supplies, documents, or baby items can be organized efficiently.
Combining modular adaptability with safety-focused installation is essential to make the room both practical and child-friendly.
