In my opinion, one of the most common pitfalls is that the drill holes are not properly aligned or the screws are overtightened. This can cause the wood to split or the shelf to be crooked. My tip: tighten the screws by hand first, then check if everything fits properly before tightening them fully.
With dowels, make sure to insert them cleanly, preferably tapping them in gently with a rubber mallet. And if the holes are already pre-drilled, be very careful as the panels are thin.
In general: take your time and have a coffee break now and then 🙂 It helps you relax and pay more attention to the details.
