GARRISON69 Jul 2018 08:43Hello everyone,
I’d like to ask if any of you have experience with accessories that fit perfectly with the Ikea Brimnes series?
I’m specifically interested in additions or accessories that integrate seamlessly both functionally and visually with Brimnes furniture—whether for the bedroom or living room. For example, I’m looking for drawer organizers, inserts, or lighting solutions that not only fit well but also enhance practical use.
In your opinion, are there accessories that complement the Brimnes range ideally, and that you personally recommend? I would also appreciate any insights on quality, fit, or ease of maintenance.
Thanks in advance for your tips and experiences!

Hello GARRISON6,
I think your question is very reasonable, especially when it comes to a well-designed system like Brimnes, which is known for its clean lines and functionality.
You can definitely find accessories that fit well, but you need to pay attention to dimensions and materials. Often, these are universal organizing boxes or smaller baskets that can be placed inside the drawers – Ikea itself often offers suitable inserts for their furniture.
For lighting, you can use LED strips or slim light bands that can be easily mounted under shelves or behind doors. It’s important to choose a neutral, simple design so the lighting doesn’t become distracting.
Handles can also be replaced, although Brimnes has a fairly minimal design, which often pairs well with modern handles made of stainless steel or matte metal.
Keep in mind that the standard dimensions of Ikea accessories are well thought out, so in most cases, you don’t need custom-made items. If you want to know more about specific types of accessories, just ask again.

Additionally, I would like to clarify that the Brimnes series from Ikea is mainly made of MDF with a melamine coating. Therefore, it makes sense to choose accessories that harmonize as much as possible with the surface finish and color to ensure a consistent overall appearance.
- For drawer organizers, plastic boxes that are neither too tall nor too wide are suitable, since the drawer sides are relatively shallow.
- For better organization in the wardrobe, breathable fabric boxes that stack well can be helpful.
- For lighting, I recommend flexible LED strips with warm white light and a low profile, which can be easily attached with adhesive tape and leave no visible cables behind.
- For the shelves’ back panels, there are thin boards or films with a wood grain appearance that can visually enhance the furniture design.
What I do not recommend are accessories made from wood that is too dark or with overly pronounced grain, as this could disrupt the clear, Nordic-minimalist style of Brimnes.
Best regards.
Honestly, I think all the fuss about "perfect accessories" for Brimnes is a bit overblown.
Brimnes is built so solidly and simply that you can make do with almost anything, as long as you trim or adjust it a bit yourself.
Believe me, the only truly perfect fit is what you assemble yourself or get exactly from Ikea. All those accessory gimmicks are often way too expensive, not to scale, and sometimes just feel like a marketing flash in the pan. For example: those fancy drawer inserts or lighting elements that you basically just "stick on" – in the end, they just gather dust.
In short: buy a sturdy, plain set from a discount store, carefully trim it with a cutter, and you’ll have something that, while not officially compatible, fits your needs exactly.
I’d say if you want the perfect accessory, it’s better to try some DIY projects than to hope you’ll find the “jack-of-all-trades” product in stores.

Brimnes is so solid and simply built that you can manage with almost anything you custom cut or adapt yourself.I would like to add some nuance: Although Brimnes is simple and modular, Ikea itself offers numerous accessories specifically designed for their furniture.
For example, the Komplement drawer inserts, which even match the color tone of the Brimnes design. These are sturdy, easy to clean, and greatly help with organization. There are also practical storage baskets that fit precisely on the shelves without requiring complicated modifications.
Personally, I use the drawer dividers from the Komplement series to separate socks and underwear. I have also installed some USB-powered chargers with strip lights inside the cabinets, making it easy to find everything even in low-light conditions.
In short, there are definitely accessories that, in my opinion, complement the Brimnes concept very well—especially if you prefer official products and want to minimize DIY custom work.
