dodofloHello everyone, I recently bought a Billy bookcase and now I’m wondering: which tools are especially helpful for assembling this shelving unit to make the process as safe, quick, and easy as possible? I’m not only interested in the basic tools but also in accessories or small aids that can simplify the assembly, such as special screwdrivers, alignment tools, or devices that help overcome common challenges during the build. Has anyone had good experiences and can offer specific recommendations? I would appreciate any practical tips!
It’s great that you want to prepare so well! 🙂 I definitely recommend a cordless drill – it saves a lot of time and effort! Also, I find a small clamp really useful to hold the parts in place while screwing them together. And of course, a spirit level is essential to make sure everything ends up perfectly straight! 🙂 Once you have all the tools ready, the assembly is a lot of fun and much easier. Don’t worry too much, you’ve got this!! 🔨😊

For assembling the Billy, you mainly need a Phillips screwdriver.I disagree. Recommending only a Phillips screwdriver is not enough. The screws on the Billy are really cheaply made and the heads can strip easily. A good ratcheting screwdriver with interchangeable bits is much better and protects the screws.

A cordless drill saves time and effort!Using a cordless drill often means being too rough, especially with the Billy. I would rather recommend a hand ratcheting screwdriver and, if needed, a small spirit level. Tools that make assembly easier should not cause more damage than progress.
Therefore my point is: quality over speed! Those who have high standards should not just rely on standard tools but invest a little more.
