Hello everyone, I have unfortunately damaged some screw holes in my Ikea Pax wardrobe. These are mainly stripped or torn holes in the particleboard where the screws no longer hold properly. My question is: What is the best way to repair these damaged screw holes so the wardrobe stands stable again and the screws have a secure hold? Are there any proven methods or tips specifically for Ikea Pax, which is made from relatively soft material? I would like to avoid replacing entire parts, so I appreciate any advice or solutions that work without too much effort.

It is important not to tighten the screw too much in order to avoid it pulling out again.

I assume that's the case, but could you or someone else briefly explain how to practically determine "not tightening too much"? My feeling is sometimes if I don’t secure the screw firmly enough, it won’t hold, but if it’s too tight, it pulls out.

Is there a method or tool to control the torque precisely? That would certainly be helpful with such soft boards.

A torque wrench for screws is ideal if you have one. Alternatively, tighten the screw so that it is secure but without any visible or tactile resistance that would deform the wood. If the screw turns too easily, it needs to be secured. With Ikea Pax as well, it is worth applying manual force and stopping when the resistance becomes “mushy.”

I recommend a cordless drill/driver with adjustable torque settings. You can usually set it to a low torque and test-screw, which protects the holes. Simply try using a low setting to see if the screw still holds.
