Hello everyone, I have a question about the IKEA Brimnes furniture, specifically how to disassemble it easily and with minimal damage. Is there a straightforward way to take apart the individual parts of the BRIMNES wardrobe, ideally without having to go through the assembly instructions or requiring expert knowledge? I am particularly interested in practical tips that make the process easier, such as specific tools, sequences, or little tricks that speed up the disassembly. Many thanks in advance for any helpful advice!

You will ideally need a hex key and a Phillips screwdriver. Unscrew all visible screws, then you can usually take the parts completely apart. Always start from the outside and work your way in systematically.

Basically, the BRIMNES furniture is modular and can be disassembled back into individual parts. I recommend the following approach:

- First, completely empty the wardrobe to reduce weight and allow better freedom of movement.
- The suitable tools are an Allen key (hex key) and a Phillips screwdriver; IKEA usually uses these types of screws.
- Remove all visible screws, especially those on the side panels and back panels.
- The back panel is often attached with thin nails or staples; you can gently pry these out using a flat-head screwdriver.
- Make sure to keep track of the order in which you remove the screws or take photos to help with reassembly later.

These steps should be possible without the original assembly instructions since the wardrobe’s mechanism is quite simple. One more tip: if you don’t have the instructions, it’s best to disassemble the parts lying flat on the floor to make prying connectors easier and to avoid damage.

This is an important tip, especially if you don’t deal with furniture assembly regularly. However, it would be interesting to discuss whether there really is a “simple” way to disassemble the furniture without causing any damage or compromising its stability.

I wonder if the Ikea BRIMNES might also have reinforcing dowels or glued joints that make disassembly problematic at the latest stage.

The term “easy” is subjective here. If you have some basic DIY skills and tools, yes. However, I recommend being prepared for possible minor damage, especially with larger furniture like the BRIMNES, since it’s not necessarily designed for frequent disassembly. Does anyone here have experience with typical difficulties, such as stiff or hard-to-remove connectors?
